Focus: Two Material/Two Color Molding
Summary: Some of our presses are uniquely equipped with the ability to inject twice during the same cycle. This molding technique can often be used when the finished part is really composed of two individual molded components.
In the example shown here, the first injection creates the black section of the part. After a proper cooling time, the second injection will mold the lettering. All of this is done during a single cycle and the finished part is ejected at the end.
Normally, without the two-shot capability, the black section of the part would be molded first by itself. Later, during a second production run, the black section would be placed in the mold by a machine operator as an insert to complete the molding of the white lettering.
By using the two-shot process, we can eliminate the need for an operator and the second run altogether. This usually represents a significant cost savings.
